Vintage Cat Postcards from the 1940s-1950s (Alfred Mainzer)

    Art & Collectibles Β·

    $5

Published by Alfred Mainzer in the 1940s-50s. If you are new to these, google them! 23 different designs available. These whimsical cards feature cats all dressed up in period costumes, riotously pursuing leisure activities. Full of complex detail, many have a sense of impending disaster, a simple event unravelling into a cascade of errors. The ones I'm offering are the early cards, which still had the lovely scalloped edges, and most of them show the heart sign in the corner. The scalloped edges were costlier to produce, so later editions were cropped to common straight-edged rectangles (cheaper to make, though these clipped off the heart signature). The artist signature came in the form of a stylized heart in one of the bottom corners. These early ones with the scalloped edges are more valued by collectors, and more than half (14 of the 23) feature the heart signature. πŸ“· See photos (expand them to zoom in). You can let me know which cards you'd like using the numbers at the sides. πŸ“ These are 5.5" x 3.5" and have the Alfred Mainzer name and logo on the back. No envelopes (they never came with them). 🌟 In as-new condition. ▢️ UPDATE: See last 3 photos for cards that have been sold & cards that are still available. $5 each. Firm, no lowballing please. You can check them out online to see what they go for. πŸ‘‰ Pick up from Yonge & St Clair, or I can post them to you (at cost)
