Antique Hand-painted Teacup and Saucer set

    Art & Collectibles ·

    $23

Antique Hand-painted Teacup and Saucer set by Chikaramachi, Japan. Chikaramachi is a Japanese porcelain manufacturer known for its hand-painted lusterware, often featuring intricate floral patterns and gold accents. Most Chikaramachi-marked wares were made in the early to mid-20th century (1920s–1950s). The “Chikaramachi / Made in Japan” mark is a known mark used by the Chikaramachi branch of Noritake (Nagoya). Sources show this mark in use roughly 1928–1946 (there are colour/variation differences in the mark). The crown-and-wreath style backstamp and script “Chikaramachi” are documented as Noritake/Chikaramachi export marks. Kovels and other collector references describe the same association. The orange/cobalt floral + gilt scrollwork design is very typical of early-to-mid 20th century Japanese export ware (often called “Imari-style” or hand-painted floral export patterns) from Chikaramachi/Noritake. These pieces were produced in a wide variety of colorways and small hand-painted differences; many are sold simply as “Chikaramachi floral” without a factory pattern name. Because Noritake/Chikaramachi produced many near-identical but not formally named patterns for export, it’s common that an exact “pattern name” cannot be located online. No cracks or chips! Excellent condition for its age! Tea cup x1 Saucer x3 $50 for all 4 pieces or $15 per piece!
